TAKE A NUMBER
ALI is a magazine photographer who lives in Venice with her two roommates, VICTORIA, a sexy publicist, and MEGAN, a graduate student with New-Age tendencies. One Friday afternoon, Ali's old boyfriend from college ADAM calls out of the blue and asks to crash on the couch: he's a chef attending a food show. Megan answers, and assures him it's fine. Moments later, DUNCAN calls. He and Ali had a romantic week in Thailand together months before. Duncan is in town over the weekend with his friend TODD, and asks to stay over also. Then WILL, Ali's buttoned-down current boyfriend, who lives in Seattle, makes the same request. Ali does not know that this is the weekend Will planned to propose marriage. All these guys arrive almost at the same time. Adam prepares dinner and flirts with Victoria. When Duncan arrives, he is also attracted to Victoria. Ali wants Duncan over Adam and Will and Megan is out of sorts because she broke up with her boyfriend ZEN. The group sits down to an uncomfortable dinner. The girls wash the dishes and play "Rate The Boyfriends," where Ali describes the differences of the boyfriends in bed. Will wins, but barely. She and Will retreat to the bedroom, while Duncan, Todd and Adam find the score to Rate The Boyfriends and make fun of Will. Duncan gets disgusted and sleeps in a tent in the yard. The next morning, Victoria drives Duncan to pick up his drive-away car and they adly. Will and Ali have lunch and Will proposes. Ali can't give Will an answer so he drives her home and leaves. adam returns from the food show and he apologizes for hurting Ali long ago. Before dinner, the group watches slides from Duncan's trip, including a slide of Duncan and Ali together. Duncan tells Ali that theirs was just a temporary fling and goes to a party with Victoria. Ali and Todd get very drunk on tequila and end up sleeping together. Megan and Zen chat in the living room while Adam, alone, gets drunk, burns the fish and the smoke alarm goes off. Zen panics and Megan shoots the scene on her video camera. Everyone emerges from the bedroom and sees who has ended up with whom. Ali wakes up next to Todd the next morning and discovers that they had sex and that he was a virgin. Duncan slept with Victoria and wants nothing to do with her. Will returns but Ali gives back the ring and says she can't marry him. Ali and Todd say a tender good-bye and he and Duncan leave. Adam is the last to drive off. Ali goes to her room, looks at the pictures of her boyfriends, takes them all down and realizes that she has to start living for herself. |
